To be able to open a craft brewery and remain open!

That's why I want to change the law. We're trying to create some parity in Texas with both what breweries in other states can do and what wineries in our state can do. The overly restrictive Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code (to be referred to as "the Code" in here - not to be confused with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission ("TABC") which enforces the Code) makes it almost impossible to open a craft brewery in Texas and be profitable. Texas has seen 19 microbreweries open and 14 of them close. Not exactly stellar odds. And while Saint Arnold is the largest (projected to sell just under 14,000 bbls in 2006), all of us should be selling 3X to 5X as much as we are if you compare us to our fellow brewers in other states.

We are not opposed to the TABC or the Code in its entirety. In fact, most all of the Code and the 3 tier system are important for our survival. But some small changes can have big effects on our little breweries.
